Experience, Passion, Engagement
Suzanne N. Sexton is a Speech-Language Pathologist licensed in the state of Maryland. In 2007, after graduating with a Master's Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Western Kentucky University, she moved with her husband to Laurel, MD, where she began providing services in local public school systems. As opportunities for professional growth and new experiences presented themselves, she took them and over the course of 15 years has observed how children learn, play and communicate in a variety of settings (including 7 years in early intervention, 4 years in private practice and 3 years in public schools).
During her time in the public schools and private practice, she was known by many of her colleagues as "the book therapist" because of her consistent use of books during her therapy sessions and her love to share books with others. Literacy has been a passion of hers since she was a young child, and she takes time to build that into her sessions with children and families.
During her time with early intervention, she was challenged with the new opportunity to conduct evaluations and therapy with families via telehealth. To her amazement, she found the quality of assessment and therapy to be rich and gratifying in ways she never imagined possible. Children were less distracted by her online presence than her physical presence, and they communicated with siblings and parents in more typical ways. This allowed for specific strategies to be implemented quickly. Her ongoing passion is to enable children to communicate with people in their communities.
