We make speech sound practice fun and motivating! Using playful activities, books, crafts, and visual cues, we’ll help your child see, hear and feel how to make sounds correctly. We’ll also give you simple strategies for practicing speech sounds at home.
Speech therapy can help your child:
Speak clearly and be understood by others
Build awareness of how to make sounds correctly
Reduce frustration and increase confidence
Build early literacy skills for reading and spelling
-
We help children grow from first words to full conversations! Our sessions use play and natural modeling to help late talkers use words that are meaningful and common in their day-to-day life. Whether your child uses gestures, speech, or AAC to express themselves, we will honor their communication style!
Language therapy can help your child:
Use more words to share wants, needs, and ideas
Understand and follow directions more easily
Stay engaged during stories and conversations
Feel more connected to family and friends
Develop stronger reading, writing, and storytelling skills
-
We respect neurodiversity and honor all types of brains! Our language therapy sessions will support your child’s attention, sensory regulation, and communication to help them connect with the world around them.
Neurodiversity-affirming language therapy can help your child:
Use gestures, signs, spoken words, or visual supports (AAC) to express themselves
Understand routines and what others say
Self-advocate for their own needs and preferences
Use language to connect with family and friends
-
Our approach to stuttering therapy centers on helping your child communicate with confidence, whether their speech is fluent or bumpy. Your child will learn how to support their speech through breathing, pacing, and fluency strategies, all while exploring thoughts and feelings about talking.
Stuttering therapy can help your child:
Use strategies for smoother speech when they choose
Advocate for their needs (like extra time to respond)
Find self-acceptance and talk about emotions related to stuttering in healthy ways
Fully participate in school, friendships, and activities
-
We help children connect by understanding their feelings, expressing themselves clearly, and recognizing social cues in others. Through playful practice with turn-taking, greetings, and problem solving, your child will navigate daily routines and relationships with confidence!
Social communication therapy can help your child:
Recognize, name, and express emotions more effectively
Build confidence in social situations
Improve play skills including sharing and turn-taking
Reduce frustration and strengthen relationships
Engage more successfully in the community and classroom
Meet Your Speech Therapist
Suzanne Sexton, M.S., CCC-SLP
Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist
I’m a playful speech therapist in Laurel, MD with over 18 years of experience helping children learn, communicate, and connect with the people around them.
I know kids learn best when they feel regulated and engaged, so I’ll always follow your child’s lead in speech therapy. You’ll see us moving, exploring toys, and diving into storybooks as we build new communication skills. In fact, my colleagues call me “the book therapist” because I weave literacy into almost everything I do!
As a parent, you are your child's first and best teacher. I’ll focus my sessions on what truly matters to your family and teach you how to help your child’s communication skills grow, wherever they go.
It’s Easy to Get Started!
Engage Play Grow Speech Therapy provides in-home speech therapy services for kids in Laurel, MD and surrounding areas, as well as online speech therapy for kids anywhere in Maryland. Here’s how you can get started:
-
Contact us with your child's legal name and your preferred email. We will send you a link to some online intake forms via SimplePractice.
Then, we will schedule a free 15-minute virtual consultation call to discuss your concerns and answer your questions. If you’d like to proceed, we will schedule your child’s initial evaluation.
-
We will meet your child at their home, private childcare center, or private school for a speech and language assessment. This will most likely take 2 separate, 60-minute sessions to complete.
Our evaluation process includes formal assessments, interviews, and observations to determine if speech therapy is needed. Once testing is complete, we will review our findings with you (in-person or virtually), develop a plan for treatment, and schedule therapy sessions if warranted. A full assessment report will be uploaded to the portal once completed.
-
We will develop a therapy plan based on our evaluation results and your family’s priorities.
Speech therapy sessions are typically 30-45 minutes long, taking place 1-3 times per week. Our recommendations will depend on your child's needs and your availability.
Our speech therapists come to you! We will meet at your home, or your child’s private school or daycare depending on the policies of the center.
